Getting Involved!
Skiers with a background in alpine racing are ideally suited to competing in Ski Cross. The high speed and technical nature of alpine ski racing lends means that the skills are easily transferable between alpine racing and ski cross.
A great route into the sport is through the indoor events that take place in the UK during the summer. These events are a great starting point and help athletes get used to skiing 4 at a time!
If you want to start competing on snow then the Swiss cup provides the best opportunity. The Swiss Ski Cross series is an open series yet regularly attracts world cup skiers of different nationalities.
The next step up is to start competing at FIS level in ski cross.
Skiers who have competed at FIS level in alpine racing can apply for a FIS Freestyle licence to allow them to compete in FIS Ski Cross events.
Less experienced skiers can opt to compete in open events such as the Swiss or Italian ski cross series to gain experience. The BRITS in Laax also provide a great ski cross experience as do the indoor events held in the UK during the summer.
